Mr. Quinn Tipping
Quinn Tipping is the Director of Choral Music at Dowling Catholic High School, where he conducts the Dowling Catholic Singers, Grace Notes, 9th grade Concert Choir,
prepares students for All-State, directs Dowling's annual Madrigal Dinner, and teaches Choral Methods. He received his Bachelor of Music degree from Iowa State University and completed advanced studies in voice at the University of Miami program, Salzburg, Austria.
Quinn completed his Level I Kodaly certification at Drake University. He has previously taught PK-5 music at the American School of Kuwait, and 5-8 music at St. Francis of Assisi School, West Des Moines.
Quinn has been selected for choral conducting masterclasses with Scott Buchanan and Eric Barnum. He has studied conducting with James Rodde and Jacob Harrison. Quinn has studied voice with Scott Jeanery, Leanne Freeman-Miller, Don Simonson, Tony Boutte, and Simon Estes. Influential music teachers in his life include: Sr. Vikki Slickers, Diane Alex, Karl Rohwer, James Rodde, Kathleen Rodde, Janice Weast, and Dr. Aimee Beckmann-Collier. Quinn and his wife, Faye, have a dog (Betsy), a cat (Tippy), and enjoy traveling and working on their Victorian home.
Mrs. Mary Bartemes
Ling Yu Hsiao
Mary Bartemes, a Dowling alum ('10) has been the Assistant Director of the Dowling Catholic Choral Program since 2016. She received her Bachelors of Music Education from Drake University with a focus in voice and piano.
Mary directs the A Cappella Choir and Dimensions Show Choir. An active local musician, she also has accompanied, performed, and music directed several musicals across Des Moines area community theatres and schools. She lives with her husband Theodore and son James (4).
Ling Yu Hsiao is a music therapist for St. Croix Hospice. She earned degrees in General Music at CUNY Queens College, Collaborative Piano at the Eastman School of Music, and Music Therapy at Appalachian State University.
She previously served as staff accompanist at Hofstra University, CUNY Queens, and Appalachian State. Currently, she maintains a private piano studio and works as a freelance accompanist throughout the area. She is a chorister in the Des Moines Choral Society.
